St. Joseph Music Ministry

If interested, or for more information, contact Michael Seroka, Director of Music Ministry, Principal Cantor and Organist through the parish office at 570-325-3731.

St. Joseph Choir

The choir prepares choral music (unison, 2, 3 and 4 part) to be sung without the congregation, in dialog or alternation with them, and sometimes also embellishes the congregational song with additional vocal parts.  New members are welcome to join throughout the year.  The ability to read music, while an asset, is not required.  Members must be 18 years of age or older.  The abilities to carry a melody on pitch and to attend most choir rehearsals and choir Masses while participating in choir are required.  It is also possible to sing in choir for parts of the year, or for select seasons, rather than committing to the entire choir season (September to June).  The parish choir normally rehearses Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the church (6:30 to 8:00 PM late fall, winter, early spring), sings at the Sunday 8:00 AM Mass and occasionally for other Masses and special occasions.

Cantors

Assist with leading congregational song particularly at masses at which there is no choir, sing portions of the liturgy in alternation or dialog with the assembly, and usually serve as psalmist, singing the verses of the Responsorial Psalm.  Normally, cantors are also members of the choir.

Funeral Choir

Assists with bolstering congregational song at Masses of Christian Burial.  Members are generally available to sing weekday mornings at funerals, and attend those they are able. This choir does not rehearse regularly. Many members are current or former members of St. Joseph Choir but that is not required.

Instrumentalists

Volunteer and professional instrumentalists periodically enhance the liturgical music particularly at major feasts and festive occasions.
